  • A Custodian is a person who cleans and maintains the building of school, office or apartments. He or she performs basic cleaning activities such as cleaning floors, stainless steel, tables, toilets, sinks, and urinals. They also lock and unlock buildings at the beginning and end of the day.

    In this article I would mainly provide you some interview questions that are frequently asked to the custodian.

    1. What are your qualifications and skills for this post?
    I have more than 5 years experience in performing custodial and maintenance duties. I have extensive knowledge of methods of maintaining, cleaning and preserving a variety of surfaces. I can easily handle and dispose risky materials and chemical products. I have uncommon ability to perform physical activities and to establish positive working relationships with the building community.

    2. Can you tell us something about the job specific tasks that you have performed?
    I had to clean kitchens, halls, rest rooms, windows, walls, carpets, furniture, locker room, and doors of the building. I also cleaned dust bins and other dirty areas. I was responsible for keeping environment fresh and clean. I had to troubleshoot and repair plumbing and electrical problems, and perform defensive protection in and around building.

    3. How do you feel about working alone in an empty building if you are on the night shift?
    Please give an honest answer to this question. Do not try to please the interviewer by hiding truth. I you do not like to work in night then tell the interviewer that you only want a day shift position.

    4. Why should I hire you?
    Through this question the employer is looking for evidence that the job suits you, fits in with your general aptitudes and coincides with your long term goals. Demonstrate your accomplishments in front of the interviewer. One has to tell reasons as to why he fits into this position. Think of all the positive traits in your personality that makes you suitable for the job. Just be positive, and highlight how your background matches the job description.

    5. Why did you leave your last job?

    Do not abuse or disregard your past employer. You do not have to tell the fouls and problem with the management of last job. Stay positive and give a positive reason behind leaving the previous job such as an opportunity, a chance to do something special or some other forward-looking reasons.
