Before moving further into the article I would like to give a short introduction of housekeeping. Well, housekeeping is the department or staff at a hotel or motel which is responsible for cleaning guest rooms and public areas, changing linens, etc. Housekeeping is the work of a house keeper.
Nowadays there is wide range of employment opportunities in this field. Below are list of questions which are frequently asked in interviews for this post.
1. How would you handle a guest that is screaming at you?
It is very important for any hotel to satisfy their customer. Unfortunately unhappy customers are part and parcel of running a hotel. Well, I generally handle unsatisfied customers by listening them. The main thing a disgruntled customer wants is to be heard. So I let them speak first and thereafter I try to solve their problem.
2. How much time do you take for cleaning an occupied room of a hotel?
Well, the answer to this question will differ from person to person. You can simply say that I take approximately 20-25 minutes for cleaning, refreshing the bathroom, making the bed and eliminating trash of an occupied room.
3. What skills are required to become a good housekeeper?
Cleanliness is one of the most important features a hotel. A good house keeper should possess good knowledge of proper usage and storage of cleaning chemicals. They must be able to handle all responsibilities in the absence of housekeeping manager. A successful housekeeper should be able to work in team as well as individual work environment.
4. What job specific tasks did you performed in your previous organization?
In my previous organization I was engaged in cleaning towels, linen, bedding, and workers uniforms. I used to wash, dry, and fold the laundry items. I even replaced soiled linen and towels, restocked soap, tissues, and drinking glasses, disinfected bathroom surfaces, dusted and polished the furniture, removed all trash, vacuumed the carpet and washed uncarpeted floors. I also replaced light bulbs, washed windows, drained ashtrays, and cleaned hallways and stairs.
5. Why have you applied for this particular job?
The employer is looking for evidence that the job suits you, fits in with your general aptitudes, coincides with your long-term goals and involves doing things you enjoy. Make sure you have a good understanding of the role and the organization, and describe the attributes of the organization that interest you most.
