  • IT Help Desk professional needs more than basic technical know-how. They have to answer calls, listen and question effectively, interpret and solve problems, give technical support and keep track of problems and solutions. The IT help desk job is about people, communication and technology.

    An interview is a two way communication between an interviewee and interviewer in which questions are asked by the interviewer to obtain information from interviewee. Some of the questions which are frequently asked in interviews for this post are as under:

    1. Can you tell us something about the job specific tasks that you have performed?

    The occupation specific tasks that I performed include training the new recruited users, attending different lectures of specialist which helps to increase efficiency of users, creating databases for different applications, managing the PCs of all the users and creating different articles which help user in their training period.

    2. Please tell us about roles and responsibilities that you had in your previous job?
    In my previous job I was responsible for answering staff questions in person and via phone, determining source of computer problems, advising staff and providing recommendations. I also resolved issues among various people in the department.

    3. If we select you then how long would you expect to work for us?
    You should be anxious for this question. An employer is always interested in selecting those candidates who could stay in their company for longtime. You can say that - I would like to make positive contribution for a long period. Or as long as we both feel that I am doing a good job. I always approach new job with a long term view.

    4. Why should we hire you for this post?
    Through this question the employer is looking for evidence that the job suits you, fits in with your general aptitudes and coincides with your long term goals. One has to tell reasons as to why he fits into this position. Demonstrate your accomplishments in front of the interviewer. Just be positive, and highlight how your background matches the job description.

    It is very essential to be prepared for an interview. During the course of an interview, you may be asked various questions. Just one bad answer can stand out and cost you the job. So be careful while you appear for an interview and do not forget to say “thank you” to the person who interviewed you.
