  • A janitor is responsible for cleaning the building or the premise for which he is appointed. His other duties may include some maintenance and security. No specific qualifications are generally asked by the employer for this post. But genuine work experience is always acknowledged.

    1. What are your duties as a janitor?
    A janitor is responsible for the cleanliness of the building. Being a janitor it is your duty to ensure properness of the environment of the premise you are working for. You have to make sure that all the wash basins, toilets, and sinks are cleaned on a regular basis. Emptying trash and recycle bins are also the duty of a janitor. Cleaning carpets, floors and tables is also his work. Apart from this he can also be allotted some maintenance work. Locking and unlocking is also one of the duties that he is generally given.

    2. Where have you worked earlier?
    Tell about your previous areas where you provided your services. Give the details about the kind of work you had there. You can also mention about the area or the size of that building.

    3. Are you comfortable working with a team?
    A janitor should be able to work peacefully and efficiently while working with a team. You can quote instances where you worked with several co-workers. Tell that you are comfortable in both conditions i.e. working as an individual or with a team.

    4. Can you provide us some references of your earlier work area?
    Prepare a list of the persons whose reference you can provide to tell about your working style. Make sure that they provide a positive point for you. This will help you a lot in securing this job. Your working style is what is important for your employer and this question provides you an excellent opportunity to tell about it.

    5. Do you have a language problem?
    Generally English is a common language known to the maximum people. If you have a command on its verbal skills then it must be sufficient. However knowing the local language of that area is an added advantage. This will help you interact with the people in a better way. You can tell about the languages that you know and the one in which you are comfortable to interact.
