  • A  Labor and delivery nurses provide care and support for women before, during and after delivery of the baby and are also known as Perinatal Nurses. They are responsible for ensuring that the medical as well as the emotional needs of the patient are adequately met throughout the entire birthing process. These nurses must be skilled at assessing situations in a fast- paced and often stressful environment. Essentially, labor and delivery nurses are the primary caretakers until the baby is ready to be delivered and the doctor arrives.

    1. What do you mean by the Perinatal?
    Sir, Perintal is the affecting to the period immediately before and after birth. The perinatal period is defined in the diverse ways. According to definition, it starts at the 20th to 28th week of gestation and ends 1 to 4 weeks after birth. The word “perinatal” is a derived from the Greek word “peri” meaning “around or about” and “natal” from the Latin “natus” meaning “born”.

    2. What do you mean by the Fetal Monitoring?
    Well sir, the Fetal Monitoring is used to evaluate the fetus status during pregnancy. For example, it is the measurement of heartbeat and visual examination of the amniotic sac. In other words, it is the looking after and taking care of the fetus for the safety purpose or to avoid any types of mishappening during the child birth.

    3. What do you mean by the Phlebotomy?
    Well sir, the Phlebotomy is the process of obtaining blood from a vein. In the old days, this was done by incising or cutting a vein and just letting the blood flow into a container. Today phlebotomy is done more neatly by puncturing a vein with a needle. Phlebotomy may be done in order to obtain blood sample for diagnostic tests or to remove blood for treatment purposes such as relieving the iron overload in hemochromatosis in the patient.

    4. What do you mean by the Hemodynamics?
    Sir, the Hemodynamics is the study of the forces involved in the circulation of blood and the measurement of blood.

    5. How will you give the satisfaction to your patient during the labor?
    Sir, I will try to provide an emotional support for women in labor. I will also try to provide a sense of control to the patient through touching and listening and having a generally calm behavior.
