  • A management consultant is a person who is engaged in providing any service, either directly or indirectly, in connection with the management of any organization in any manner. He or she renders any advice, consultancy or technical assistance, relating to conceptualizing of any working system of any organization.

    Interview is a two way communication process in which an interviewer asks questions related to job from a prospective interviewee. In this article I would like to provide some important questions that are frequently asked in interviews for the post of management consultant.

    1. Why do you want to work in consulting? And why do you want to join this firm?
    I find this field very lucrative. Consulting is considered as a hot career option. There has been the explosion of career opportunities in the area of consulting. You have to tell those reasons for which you want to join this profession. Make a complete research on the respective field. I specially want to join your company because I see bright future aspect in your organization. I would suggest you to prepare well before appearing for an interview. Make a complete research of the respective company. All you have to do is to speak about the past and growth trend of the company.

    2. What do you believe a consultant does? What would you consider to be the three most important qualities of a successful consultant?
    Management consultants perform wide range of tasks. They analyze and evaluate operating procedures and then make recommendations based on their findings. These people are often hired to solve a specific organizational problem or concern within the company. They operate across a wide variety of services such as marketing, financial, business strategy, management controls, information technology, human resources, e-business and operations, and supply-chain management.

    3. Do you like to try new ways of doing things or do you rigidly follow traditional ways?
    Candidate should show that they are open to new ideas. You should say that- I like to take risks in trying new solutions and ways of working. I am a versatile person and I am able to think beyond traditional thinking. I can also develop innovative solutions to problems.

    4. What is your academic qualification?
    I have achieved Masters Degree in International Relationship from a well known university.
