An Underwriting assistant works under the direction of underwriter. His duty is to assist the underwriters and do all duties related to underwriting such as analyzing the accounting information and assigning the data using computer system. He or she also answers phone calls, fills and evaluates various insurance maps and application forms.
An interview is a two way communication between an interviewee and interviewer in which questions are asked by the interviewer to obtain information from interviewee. Some of the questions which are frequently asked to underwriting assistant in interviews are as under:
1. What training have you received and what are your professional experiences?
I am in this field from last 5 years. I have ample experience in creating questions for credit, reports, and records for processing. I have attended various underwriting meetings with clients. I have handful experience in answering telephone calls, directing and opening all posts, filing risk forms and analyzing the assigned data and accounting information using computer system.
2. State some of your technical and non technical skills?
It is a frequently asked interview question. This question is aimed to know the skills and qualities of the interviewee. I have excellent ability to underwrite large and complex accounts and manage agency’s relationship and production. I possess outstanding communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills. Apart from this I have exceptional proficiency in computer and internet.
3. What have been the biggest accomplishments of your career so far?
Discuss the challenges you were presented with in your previous job, your actions, and the end result. Focus on accomplishments that directly relate to the respective position. The way you answer this question will distinguish you from other applicants since your answer will require you to go beyond the basic job responsibilities.
4. What are your weak and strong points?
It is an excellent question which gives you a nice chance to put an optimistic turn on something negative. You have to cast your negatives into positives. Like in weakness you can say that I am too focused toward my work and I think I should take out time for myself. As far as strong points are concerned, they expect a simple answer from you. Just tell that you are hardworking, careful, perfectionist and determined.
5. Would you like to ask any question?
You should prepare question in advance for the interviewer. If you will ask questions from the interviewer then he will think that you are genuinely interested in the company.
